Model Systems Services
Knowledge Transfer and Mentoring
Our preferred approach is to develop a centre of expertise within a client organization, by a combination of training, mentoring and doing. "Doing" means working beside client staff - perhaps taking the lead on the first one or two projects - while they gain experience and confidence. We have done this for, among others, A C Nielsen (Chicago), CCTA (UK Government IT Agency), Department of Social Security (UK), Government of Hong Kong, London Stock Exchange, Texas Water Commission, Union Bank of Switzerland, SwissCom Mobile.
Particular areas of expertise include:
- Enterprise Architecture: we use the Zachman Framework as our frame of reference
- Business modelling and requirements definition
- Business vocabulary, policies and rules
- Regulatory compliance
- Logical system modelling: data, class, state and transaction models, workflow
- Database design
- Application development methodology
Review and Quality Assurance
We can support project review and end-product quality assurance by:
- Helping you develop or refine your review and QA standards
- Undertaking the reviews ourselves, and/or supporting your staff while they carry out reviews
Research and Development
We have substantial R&D experience (see our R&D page), including:
- Methodology development
- Investigation and evaluation of technologies and tools
Training
Although we are experienced in training (see our Training page), we have no full-time trainers. Every instructor on a Model System course is an active practitioner. We can:
- Provide our existing material "as is", customise it to your requirements or develop new material for you
- Present your material for you and/or train your trainers to present it
Implementation
We are not able directly to support implementation, although we can often deliver "proof of concept" demonstrations or prototypes in technologies including HTML, Java and JavaScript, Visual Basic, C++, XML, XSLT, ASP, SQL and relational database (Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, MS Access), and several business rules engines.
However, we can recommend several companies with excellent implementation capability. We are happy either to work in consortium, or to put you directly in contact with them.
